Still Unsure?
Then here are some tips to identify your material
35mm Negative Films
35mm Negatives
A 35mm negative actually measures 36mm x 24mm and they are normally cut into strips of 4 or 6. If in doubt carefully measure the image portion as shown here>>>
Occasionally 35mm film reels are left uncut in their original lengths of 24 or 36 frames
Please contact us if you need any further assistance in identifying your negatives.

35mm 'Positive' Slides

Slides are un-inverted positives, as apposed to negatives where you see the image in an inverted state. This allows the slide to be projected onto a screen or wall.
35mm Slides
Slides are normally set in 2" x 2" frame made from plastic or cardboard as can be seen
<<< here
The film in the central window is normally the same size as 35mm negatives, that is 36mm x 24mm however this can vary. Don't worry our scanners can handle all the variations except for 110 film, which comes in a 1" x 1" frame. We don't currently offer a 110 slide scanning service.
Medium Format Negatives
Medium Format
These negatives come in 3 main sizes, 6x4.5cm, 6x6cm and 6x7cm.
Medium format film is normally used by keen amateurs or professional photographers, and often used commercially. It comes in 2 lengths, 120 and 220.
The negatives can come in short strips or single frames. Full lengths will have to be cropped to fit through our scanners.

Large Format Negatives

Large Format
Common large format sizes include 4x5, 5x7, and 8x10 inches, and come in single sheets. As things stand we can only scan 4x5 negatives, but we do plan to accept the larger sizes soon.
We use our Epson Pro flatbed scanners which produce excellent results and they can easily accommodate these large sized negatives.
Photographs
Photographs
Our maximum photo scanning size is 216 mm x 297 mm (approximately 8.5 x 11.7 inches). This correlates to A4 in standard paper size.
We use Epson Pro scanners that provide excellent results from both colour and black and white photos.
We scan at high resolution for the best results.

Spot Re-Touch & Red Eye Removal
What does this mean?
This is a 2 in 1 light restoration service. Spot Re-Touch basically means that we manually remove any small unwanted blemishes or small scratches that are not supposed to be in the photograph. Our scanners do a great job of filtering these out, but occasionally they can get left behind.

Red Eye Removal
Red Eye is a reflection from a camera flash against the eyes retina. The retina then illuminates red. This can look very undesirable in a photograph, but we can eliminate red eye and make the image look more natural for you.
This is a hand finished service that can be applied after both film and photo scanning.
FULL RESTORATION

Restoration
This is a bespoke hand finished service conducted by our digital artists. It entails using the latest Photoshop tools to revitalise faded, torn and creased photographs so that you can cherish them once again.
We include a free 'Colourised' version of any black and white photograph we restore at DigiScan.
Colourisation

'Colourise'
This process harnesses the latest A.I. technology to accurately predict the best colour palette for any monochrome image.
We can also instruct the A.I. to use colours of our choice wherever the need arises. This makes colourise an incredibly powerful tool that is led by you, so you can fully personalise the image to your own liking.
The Cloud
What is The Cloud?
The "cloud" in computing refers to a global network of remote servers that store, manage, and process data, as well as run applications and deliver content over the internet.
It's essentially a metaphor for the internet, where instead of storing files and running software on your own devices, you access these resources remotely via the internet.
Our cloud providers are IONOS, they offer a secure service that can be easily accessed by you the customer.
Once scanned we email you a link to your personal cloud directory. This stays active for 30 days for you to download your images at your own convenience.

Which Format?
Jpeg is the the standard compressed format, but if you intend to make any future edits to your scans then Tiff is a must.
Tiff files retain far more image information than Jpeg's, which is why they are so large, however they are also essential for image editing. Jpeg's are smaller files but they loose quality every time they are saved due to their 'lossy' compression algorithms. You can still copy and share Jpegs without a drop off in quality making them suitable for the majority of our customers.
